- international students are encouraged to apply for Visiting International Research Student (VIRS) under their home university where they are completing their studies.
- VIRS applicants must submit an approval form that is signed by their Research Supervisor/Academic Advisor and their Department Head from their home university as well as their UBC Research Supervisor and Department Head (contact Go Global for assistance)
Benefits of VIRS
- provides visiting research students, student status at UBC and a letter of acceptance.
- UBC student status enables visiting research students to obtain a UBC ID number, a CWL ID, and their UBC ID card (this will serve as their library card).
- the letter of acceptance can be used to apply for immigration documents.
- VIRS students are considered full-time students at UBC engaged in educational research for immigration purposes.
- Note: VIRS students are not permitted to have an employment relationship with UBC related to their VIRS research.
